Yes, the subject of the conference was indeed sociodrama. But the 60 or
so attendees from all over the world were excited, as was I, at the
anticipation of see mama whales and their calves in a protected gulf
of Mexico cove on the Valdes peninsula, home of the 'Right' whales, who
give birth yearly around May and for 4-5 months protect their calves
from the only natural predator, the killer whale. After, that time,
they return to the ocean, having not eaten for 4 months, to a diet of a ton
of krill per day. Quite a sacrifice for the protection and guidance of
the young offspring. We were on the Pacific Ocean.
Si, el asunto de la conferencia fue ciertamente sociodrama. Pero los aproximadamente 60 congresistas de todo el mundo estaban emocionados como yo, con la espectativa de ver a las mamás ballenas y sus ballenatos en un protegido golfo de México, en la Península Valdés, (Nota del traductor: Golfo Nuevo, Argentina) hogar de las Ballenas Francas Australes, que paren cada año alrededor del mes de mayo y durante 4 a 5 meses protegen a sus crías del único predador, las orcas. The first morning we boarded a plane from Buenos Aires, 1 hour 45 min.
To Trelew airport and then by bus to Puerto Madryn where we all stayed
in a wonderful hotel, the Peninsula Valdes. Immediately I met Rene
Marineau and many of us went again by bus to the ocean beach nearby to
see the massive tails, and bodies of the 'right' whales within
touching distance near the beach.
La primera mañana abordamos un avión desde Buenos Aires y después de 1 hora y 45 minutos aterrizamos en el aeropuerto de Trelew. Fuimos con un bus a Puerto Madryn donde nos alojamos en un regio hotel, el Península Valdés. Inmediatamente enconetré a René Marineau y muchos de nosotros volvimos a subir al bus para ir a una playa cercana para ver las enormes colas y cuerpos de las ballenas Francas, casi las podíamos tocar, cerca de la playa.
The water is deep close in so the whales swim
safely with their calves, airing their tails so gracefully and blowing
and breathing through two holes in their head. I wept at the sight. It
was overwhelming to be so close to our ancestors who have been
existing where our human ancestors walked. The privacy of the beach, with no
hotels, no shops, no trace of the human form except the silent few who
were witness. I was advised by janet Knoll, who has studied the whales
for her PH.D. On" Mystical Experiences with Whales" to walk away from
people and let the experience enter me silently and alone. I did so. It
was profound.
El mar es profundo a pesar de estar cerca así que las ballenas nadan seguras con sus ballenatos, mostrando sus colas con tal gracia y soplando y respirando a través de los dos orificios en sus cabezas. Mirando esto, lloré. Era tan increíble estar tan cerca de nuestros antepasados que han estado existiendo donde nuestros ancestros humanos caminaban… La privacidad de la playa, sin hoteles, comercios, sin trazas de humanos excepto los pocos silenciosos que estaban siendo testigos. Diane Knoll quien ha estudiado las ballenas para su tesis “Experiencias Místicas con Ballenas” me aconsejó que me alejara un poco y que dejara que la experiencia me invadiera silenciosamente, estando sola. Así lo hice. Fue profundo.
The majesty, grace and getting- on -with -it-ness of the
whales is something we can learn from. They exist so simply. No
computer, no email but excellent communicators, one with the other.
When one is dying they all stay with it until it's over. A mama guided
her calf with her fin, away from us, calf didn't listen, sh came back
with another mama, they guided her back with her fin, then the third
time, when the calf clearly wasn't getting the message, the original
mama slapped her fin strongly as if to say, "I mean it." How many
times have I, myself, done that as a mum? I smiled with recognition. Was it
impatience, frustration, anger or just 'tough love"? Afterwards, the
calf stayed further away to the place she had thrice been guided.
La majestuosidad, la gracia, y el hacerlo de las ballenas es algo que podemos aprender de ellas. Ellas existen con tal simplicidad. Sin computadoras, sin e-mails, pero son excelentes comunicadoras entre ellas. Cuando uno está muriendo todas la acompañan hasta el fin. Una mamá guiaba a su bebé con su aleta, apartándolo de donde estábamos. Pero el bebé no la escuchaba. Volvió con otra mamá y lo guiaron con su aleta, y luego a la tercera vez, chando el bebé claramente no estaba entendiendo el mensaje, la mamá original le dio una buena cachetada con su aleta como diciendo: “Mirá que lo digo en serio”. Cuántas veces yo misma he hecho lo mismo como mamá? Me sonreí, reconociéndolo. Era impaciencia, frustración, enojo o simplemente “fuerte amor”? Luego, el bebé se quedó más alejado, en el lugar donde por tres veces se lo había guiado.
The conference opened later that day with a SKYPE phone call from
Zerka Moreno. It was taken by Monica Zuretti, who was the major convenor,
and standing near was Paula Echaniz, the conference secretariat, Monica's
kind and efficient daughter and Paula's helpful 11 year old daughter,
Juliana.
Luego la conferencia se abrió ese mismo día con un llamado a través de Skype de Zerka Moreno. Mónica Zuretti, quien era la convocante, contesto y cerca de ella estaban Paula Echaniz, la secretaria de la Conferencia y también la amable y eficaz hija de Mónica y su colaboradora hija Juliana, de 11 años.
We were all warmed by Zerka's words, honouring the cosmos and
encouraging us to say 'yes, to the whales'. She, as many of you around
the world, were indeed with us with your thoughts and messages of your
own activities that weekend. Togetherness abounded and love was in the
air.
Todos nos emocionamos con las palabras de Zerka, honrando al cosmos y animándonos a decier “si, a las ballenas”. Ella, como muchos de ustedes en el mundo, estaba efectivamente con nosotros, con sus pensamientos y mensajes desde sus propias actividades durante ese fin de semana. El estar unidos era abundante y el amor se sentía en el aire.
Monica and Paula opened the Congress with words of welcome. Rene
suggested we meet, in pairs, someone from another country and share
our stereotypical or personal prejudices of that country. Many encounters
occurred. Mexico with Germany, etc. Monica, Rene and Myself formed a
panel and talked about memories of Moreno and why we do sociodrama.
The afternoon saw workshops on many topics from children who are abused,
group identity, to women and violence, to using the best of the past to
look at the present and the future, to a personal experience with
humpback whales in Mexico during the death of a brother.
Mónica y Paula abrieron el Congreso con palabras de bienvenida. René sugirió que nos pusieramos en pares, alguien de otro país, y que compartieramos nuestros prejuicios estereotípicos o personales con ese país. Ocurrieron muchos encuentros. México con Alemancia, etc. Mónica, René y Yo formamos un panel y hablamos sobre nuestros recuerdos de Moreno y por qué hacemos sociodrama.
La tarde vió talleres sobre muchos temas: niños abusados, identidad de grupo, mujeres yviolencia, utilizando lo mejor del pasado para mirar el presente y el futuro, hacia una experiencia personal con las ballenas jorobadas en México durante la muerte de un hermano.
One day we met the local tribal people in an open sociodrama. One
morning we went whale watching on small boats, togged up in life
jackets.
Un día en un sociodrama abierto a la comunidad encontramos gente de los pueblos originarios. Otra mañana nos embarcamos para hacer avistaje de ballenas en pequeñas embarcaciones, envueltos en nuestros chalecos salvavidas.
The hospitality of the Argentinians was brilliant. From Norma's body
dancing for the whole group, to Felicity gently telling us about the
whales, the sunrise and offering her singing voice softly into the ocean
air directly to the whales.
La hospitalidad de los argentinos fue brillante. Desde la Danza del cuerpo de Norma para todo el grupo, Felicitas contándonos amablemente sobre las ballenas, la salida del sol y su voz cantando suavemente en el aire del océano directamente a las ballenas.
Rene gave a brilliant lecture on origins and uses of sociodrama the
following day. More workshops during the day. Marvellous great fish
meal at the port after the whale boat.
René dio una conferencia brillante sobre los orígenes y usos del sociodrama al día siguiente. Más talleres durante ese día. Una maravillosa comida de frutos de mar en el puerto, después del avistaje de ballenas.
We celebrated life together. We said yes to the whales, to each other
and found the light to carry on in what sometimes is darkness.
Celebramos la vida juntos. Les dijimos Si a las ballenas, a cada uno, y encontramos la luz para seguir llevándola donde a veces hay oscuridad.
Next conference may be in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico where humpback
whales gather yearly. Perhaps they are cosmic teachers about group behaviour
and geniuses as we all are when we find the courage to find the light.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful adventure. I spent some days with
the animal life on Peninsula Valdes in 1987. I am still struck by the inpack
this landscape had and has!

Dear Marcia and all. How wonderfull your description Marcia, I felt so
moved by reading it and all the memories came back.
It has been a magnificent experience and I have learned something very
important: it is possible and wonderful to create, grow and learn in
harmony, with respect for each other and the other beings inhabitants of
the planet.

The words from Zerka were an opening hight light, Zerka dear your
energy seemed to engulf the whole audience, we were in a special cosmic
space without distance or time, a space of reunion and togetherness we
were all inside this atmosphere that you create just by being and
talking.
It was very strange that everybody could hear you and felt you even if
your voice by technical reasons was not heard and the only voice was the
double I was making and the translation . It reached not only the
participants but also the different groups that were present by Internet
from Canada to Italy ....
Las palabras de Zerka fueron realmente un gran hito para comenzar el Congreso! Querida Zerka, tu energía parecía contener toda la audiencia. Estábamos en un espacio cósmico especial, sin distancia ni tiempo, un espacio de reunión y estar juntos, estábamos todos dentro de esta atmósfera que túcreaste simplemente estando y hablando.
Era muy extraño el hecho de que todos podían oirte y sentirte a ti, aunque por razones técnicas tu voz no podía ser escuchada… era yo la que transmitía en castellano lo que tú decías, y luego volvías a ser traducida al inglés. Esta conversación no sólo la experimentaron los participantes, sino todos los grupos que a través de Skype estaban conectados para esa apertura, desde Canada hasta Italia…
Sis Thank you again for such a complete resume of the experience.
We are preparing a synthesis of themes and a gallery of pictures to
place on the web site for you all to share. I hope we will meet in Puerto
Vallarta in the next Congress .

sharing the different international meetings that were taking place in
co-unconscious connection within the theme Light Finds the
Way,coordinated by Cristina Moreira from the begining and the support of
Patricia Asencio and Felicitas Mira in Puerto Madryn.
También fue muy importante durante la reunión los contactos por Skype compartiendo los diferentes encuentros internacionales que tenían lugar en la conexión del co-inconsciente dentro del tema La Luz Encuentra el Camino, coordinada por Cristina Moreira desde el comienzo y con el apoyo de Patricia Asencio yt Felicitas Mira en Puerto Madryn.
In the mean time we invite you all to the Sociopsychodrama Encounter
the same dates and the same place next year . Following the experience
of A piu voci the meeting done every year in Iseo, Italy we plan to house
an Encounter and meeting with the Whales from now on in Puerto Madryn
followed by a seminar.
Mientras tanto, invitamos a todos al 2º Encuentro de Sociopsicodrama en las mismas fechas y en el mismo lugar, el año próximo. Siguiento la experiencia de A piu voce, el encuentro que se hace todos los años en Iseo, Italia, proyectamos ser los anfitriones de un Encuentro con las Ballenas de ahora en adelante, en Puerto Madryn, seguido de un seminario.

with a program and to be part of next year Encounter.
Los Abiertos a la Comunidad sobrepasaron cualquier espectativa. Is importante que sepan que el Centro Cultural Caracol que tan generosamente ofreció su participación abriendo las puertas a la comunidad, va a continuar con un programa y volver a participar en el próximo Encuentro.
Also the Jornadas en la Universidad were a success and the faculty
plans a continuation.
